Simon Ekpa to Face Trial in Nigeria – DSS

    Share

A witness from the Department of State Services (DSS) has told a Federal High Court in Abuja that Simon Ekpa, a well-known supporter of the Biafra movement, may soon be brought back to Nigeria from Finland to face trial.

The anonymous witness, identified only as PW-AAA for security reasons, made the statement on Friday during the ongoing trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The witness was part of the team that arrested Kanu in 2015.

During cross-examination by Kanu’s lawyer, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), PW-AAA said Ekpa’s repatriation is being planned as part of efforts to hold key figures accountable for activities linked to the Biafra agitation.

Meanwhile, the court admitted several items recovered from Kanu during his 2015 arrest. These included electronic gadgets like laptops, iPads, modems, phones, microphones, and passports, as well as personal items like perfumes, wristwatches, documents, and a Biafra-themed complementary card.

The DSS witness clarified that no weapons were found on Kanu or a woman who was arrested alongside him. He also noted that while the recovered items may not appear dangerous on their own, they could be used for unlawful purposes depending on the intention.
