Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has accused his predecessor, Okezie Ikpeazu, of committing fraud by inaugurating an uncompleted Government House. Otti described the move as part of several deceptive legacies he has had to address since taking office.
During an interview on ARISE News, Otti explained that the previous administration commissioned the Government House, but while the ground floor was completed and furnished, the upper floors were left unfinished with no plastering or sanitary fittings. He called it an act of fraud, as the building was presented as complete.
Otti also revealed that, under his leadership, Abia’s debt profile was reduced significantly. He stated that the state inherited a debt of N192 billion, including unpaid salaries and pensions, but he has not borrowed any money since assuming office. Otti emphasized that he had cleared pension arrears and other outstanding debts through careful financial management.
On healthcare, Otti addressed concerns over the controversial multi-specialist hospital in Aba, explaining that it was repurposed as a general hospital, as Aba already has a well-functioning specialist facility at the Abia State University Teaching Hospital. He also highlighted that the teaching hospital regained its accreditation under his watch in 2023, after losing it in 2021 due to neglect by the previous administration.
Governor Otti reaffirmed his commitment to the people of Abia, highlighting that his focus remains on improving the state’s infrastructure, healthcare, and financial stability.
