The Nigerian military has arrested four individuals suspected of aiding terrorist activities in the North-East, including two personnel from the hybrid forces, who were supposed to be working with the military to fight insurgency.
The Defence Headquarters confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Friday, detailing a series of operations conducted from April 26 to 29 in Bama, Kukawa, and Madagali Local Government Areas of Borno and Adamawa States. In these operations, troops intercepted four logistics suppliers connected to the terrorists, two of whom were identified as members of the hybrid forces. The military expressed concern over this betrayal and called on commanders to ensure their personnel do not engage in activities that could undermine their operations.
In addition to this, the military carried out further operations in several towns across the region, including Gwoza, Dikwa, and Chibok. These efforts led to the neutralization of several terrorists, the rescue of six kidnapped victims, and the recovery of weapons, ammunition, and vehicles used by the terrorists.
Meanwhile, in the South-South region, military forces made significant strides in tackling oil theft and illegal refining activities in the Niger Delta. Over 86,000 litres of stolen crude oil, 72,000 litres of illegal diesel, and over 2,600 litres of petrol were recovered. The military also destroyed numerous illegal refining sites and arrested 18 oil thieves and criminals, seizing a range of illegal equipment and vehicles in the process.
The Defence Headquarters reaffirmed the military’s commitment to securing the nation, urging citizens to continue sharing credible information with security agencies. While stressing the importance of operational security, the military emphasized its focus on defeating terrorism, banditry, and other criminal activities to ensure the safety of all Nigerians.
