The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant drug and explosives seizures across Nigeria. On Sunday, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi announced that operatives intercepted a commercial vehicle along the Kaduna-Zaria expressway, carrying 942 explosives. The vehicle, traveling from Nasarawa to Zamfara, was stopped, and the explosives, hidden in a sack, were recovered. A 30-year-old suspect, Nura Muhammad, was arrested, and the case was referred to the appropriate security agencies for further investigation.
In another major operation, NDLEA officers arrested five members of a drug syndicate in Kano on April 30, recovering 21.6 kg of skunk. Also, on May 1, operatives in Edo State intercepted a Toyota bus at Uromi, which was transporting a variety of opioids, including 314,020 tramadol pills and other drugs like codeine syrup and diazepam.
Further seizures were made in Anambra, where operatives stopped a Mazda bus and recovered 50,400 tramadol capsules and other drugs. In Niger State, NDLEA officers on patrol seized 5,500 tramadol capsules and arrested a suspect, Yusuf Abubakar.
In a separate investigation, the NDLEA arrested a wanted drug kingpin, Dominic Chiegozie Obijiaku, the Managing Director of Ovidaq International Ltd, for his role in the importation of over 2.6 million tramadol pills, intercepted at the Apapa seaport. A follow-up operation at his residence also led to the seizure of Canadian Loud marijuana.
The NDLEA continues to intensify efforts in tackling the illegal drug trade and protecting the nation from dangerous substances.
