Police operatives have scored significant successes in their ongoing efforts to combat crime in Benue and Delta States, with multiple arrests and the killing of bandits. In Benue State, three suspected bandits were killed during a fierce gun battle with police operatives on May 3, 2025. The bandits, believed to be from Shitele and Ukum, were reportedly holding secret meetings at Sankera to plan attacks against security forces. The occurred near the Tse-Gondo axis, where the bandits sustained fatal gunshot wounds and were confirmed dead at a hospital. Police recovered two locally made guns and several live cartridges from the scene.
Meanwhile, in Delta State, the police have arrested nine suspected kidnappers following a series of successful operations. One of the most notable arrests was that of Henry Okpor, a suspected serial car thief, who was apprehended on April 22, 2025. Okpor was found with two stolen vehicles and a pump-action gun. Additionally, on April 25, 2025, two members of the notorious Vikings cult were captured with firearms during a sting operation.
The Delta police also responded swiftly to a kidnapping incident on April 26, 2025, when two people were abducted in Agbarho. Following a successful rescue operation in Uvwiama forest, the police freed the victims and arrested nine suspects. A large cache of weapons was recovered, including three pump-action guns, several shotguns, and ammunition.
In a statement, police spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi praised the efforts of the operatives and reaffirmed the police’s commitment to tackling violent crime. He added that all suspects will face charges in court once investigations are complete. The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the police officers’ bravery and assured the public that the Force would continue to prioritize citizen safety.
