An officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has been arrested by the police in Abuja for allegedly trying to rob a Bolt driver at gunpoint.
The incident happened in the early hours of Friday, May 9, 2025, around 12:10 a.m. at City View Estate in the Galadimawa area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to reports, the NDLEA officer, who is said to be an inspector serving with the FCT Command, tried to hijack a Toyota Corolla with registration number KWL 736 SZ from a Bolt driver, Mr. Israel Emeka, while the car was still moving. During the struggle, the officer reportedly shot the driver with a locally made pistol.
The driver was quickly rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, where he is now receiving treatment.
The FCT Police Command confirmed that officers from the Galadimawa Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), responded swiftly to a distress call from residents and arrested the suspect at the scene. A locally fabricated pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from him.
Authorities have yet to release the suspect’s name, but investigations are ongoing. The NDLEA has not yet made an official statement on the incident.
This shocking case has raised serious concerns about discipline and screening within law enforcement agencies in Nigeria.
