A 16-year-old student, Olamide Aderibigbe, has emerged as one of the top performers in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), scoring a total of 336 out of 400.
Aderibigbe, a student of Starville International School, Jabi, Abuja, achieved an outstanding 98 in Mathematics, 86 in Physics, 68 in English, and 84 in Economics — placing him among the top 0.3% of candidates nationwide.
The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, announced that out of the over 1.9 million candidates who sat for the exam, only 12,414 scored 300 and above. Of those, just 4,756 scored above 320.
The UTME, a nationwide entrance exam for tertiary institutions in Nigeria, tests candidates in four subjects — with English compulsory and the other three based on their chosen field of study.
Compared to 2024, when only 8,000 candidates scored above 300, this year saw a slight increase in high scores, but more than 1.5 million students still scored below 200 — the average benchmark.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, described the 2025 results as a sign of ongoing success in curbing examination malpractice and improving exam integrity.
