At least eight people have been killed by suspected Fulani militants in a deadly attack on farmers in Chinku community, Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State, near the border with Benue State.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers, armed with guns and machetes, stormed the farmlands and assaulted the victims while they were working. The victims, all of Tiv ethnicity, were either shot or hacked to death during the attack.

A combined team of security operatives later recovered the bodies and confirmed the victims as Jonathan Ordonga, Joseph Torsev Yagba, Aondolumun Torsev Yagba, Torkulugh Apirgwa, Orfega Atuku, Orshoja Kuramga, Tersugh Mbaaiiga, and Shater Buchi. Their remains were taken to Iorna Clinic in Jootar, Benue State, before being released to their families for burial.

In response to the attack, local authorities summoned the Ardo (leader) of the Fulani community in Chinku to an emergency meeting, urging him to help identify those responsible and to warn his people against further violence.

The incident adds to the rising tension and ongoing farmer-herder clashes along the Taraba–Benue border, a region long troubled by insecurity and land disputes.
