The Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the victims were attacked while trying to calm the suspect, who had reportedly become violent after the business deal failed.

Residents said the incident took place in a quiet part of the community, where people were asleep before the sudden outbreak of violence.

According to police accounts, the suspect allegedly lost control during an argument and began attacking those around him with a knife. Some of the victims were said to have stepped in to settle the dispute before the situation escalated.

Babaseyi explained that the suspect stabbed five people in total before fleeing the scene.

“On Tuesday, 7th April 2026, at about 0138hrs, the suspect stabbed five people. Two of them died while being taken to the hospital, and a doctor confirmed their deaths,” he said.

He added that the other three victims were rushed to hospital, where they are currently being treated.

After carrying out the attack, the suspect reportedly fled the area in an attempt to escape arrest. However, police operatives from the Ajuwon Division later tracked him down and took him into custody.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect is now being held by the police and has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

“The case and the suspect have been sent to the SCID for investigation and prosecution,” Babaseyi stated.

Police say they are working to establish the full details surrounding the failed business transaction that led to the attack.
