A tragic incident occurred during a turbaning ceremony in Gwoza, Borno State, on Saturday, when a locally made dane gun misfired, fatally injuring a young man.
According to sources, Yusuf Ahmadu, a member of the local vigilante group, handed the loaded firearm to Buba Hamman during the event. While handling the gun, Ahmadu accidentally discharged it, striking 18-year-old Isa Ali in the chest.
The victim was immediately rushed to the Gwoza General Hospital, but sadly, he was confirmed dead on arrival by medical staff.
Security forces quickly arrived at the scene, restored order, and seized the firearm. Both Ahmadu and Hamman were arrested in connection with the incident.
The motive behind the accidental shooting is still under investigation, as authorities continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
