The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Mansur Umar, for allegedly killing his sister’s boyfriend, Sulaiman Musa, during a visit in Kunya Village, Minjibir Local Government Area.
Police said the incident happened on Friday night, May 9, 2025, around 9:30pm. Sulaiman, who was also 25 years old and a resident of Goda Village in the same area, had gone to see his girlfriend, Fiddausi Umar, when the tragedy occurred.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspect, who is the victim’s girlfriend’s brother, attacked Sulaiman with a stick, hitting him on the head.
The injured man was rushed to Kunya Cottage Hospital and later transferred to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano, where he died around 12:50am on Saturday.
Police say Mansur Umar is in custody and the case is now being handled by the Homicide Section of the Criminal Investigation Department.
Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, condemned the act and urged residents to seek peaceful ways to settle disputes.
