Students Demand Review, Threaten Legal Action Against JAMB

    Share

More than 1.5 million candidates who scored below 200 in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) have petitioned the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), demanding a review of the results.

In a petition submitted through their lawyers, John C. Nwobodo and M.C. Agbo, the candidates questioned the accuracy and fairness of the marking system used by JAMB. They alleged that there may have been technical issues or software glitches that led to mismatched questions and answers during the exam.

According to the lawyers, the candidates, who scored between 100 and 199, believe their scores do not reflect the effort they put into the exam.

“Our clients suspect a flaw in the JAMB system, and are demanding full transparency, including access to the actual questions and answers used in marking,” the petition reads.

The lawyers, representing 1,534,654 affected candidates, broke down the scores as follows:

The petition was also sent to the Senate President, the Minister of Education, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The candidates are requesting JAMB to carry out a full review of the marking process and disclose each candidate’s questions and the answers used for grading.

They warned that if JAMB fails to act, legal steps will be taken to ensure justice for the students.

The lawyers added that they are open to working with the JAMB Registrar to ensure clarity and restore confidence in the examination process.
