President Bola Tinubu, alongside former President Goodluck Jonathan and several other dignitaries, on Tuesday, gathered in Kiagbodo, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, to bid farewell to the late elder statesman, Pa Edwin Clark. Clark, who passed away on February 17, 2025, at the age of 97, was a prominent leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) and a key figure in the advocacy for justice and equity for the Niger Delta region.
The funeral service, held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Kiagbodo, was officiated by the Anglican Archbishop of the Ughelli Diocese, Most Revd. Cyril Odutemu. In his tribute, Odutemu highlighted Clark’s dedication to service, justice, and integrity.
President Tinubu, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, described the late Clark as “a patriot and champion of his community and the country.” He praised Clark’s lifelong commitment to national unity, justice, and equity, noting that his legacy would continue to inspire future generations.
Former President Jonathan, in his tribute, lauded Clark’s efforts as a “great nationalist” and his role as an “audacious voice for the voiceless,” especially in advocating for minority rights and good governance. Senate President Godswill Akpabio also spoke fondly of Clark, emphasizing that his memories would live on forever.
Several governors, including Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Bayelsa Governor Duoye Diri, and Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno, attended the service, pledging to carry on Clark’s legacy. Donations were also made towards the renovation and development of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, with N50 million each donated by Governors Akpabio and Mohammed for church projects.
The ceremony was a fitting tribute to Pa Edwin Clark, whose influence on Nigerian politics, justice, and unity remains profound.
