Nigerian actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has achieved a significant milestone in her career by being listed among The Hollywood Reporter’s “Most Influential Women in International Film.” The prestigious recognition was announced on May 9, 2025, celebrating 46 exceptional women worldwide who are making remarkable strides in the global film industry.

Known for her trailblazing works in Nollywood, including her hit television series Jenifa’s Diary and the blockbuster film Omo Ghetto: The Saga, Akindele has become one of the most successful figures in Nigeria’s entertainment sector. Her innovative contributions to film and television have earned her a reputation as one of the industry’s leading voices.

Expressing her gratitude on Instagram, Akindele shared her excitement about the honour. “I’m deeply honoured and truly grateful to be featured in The Hollywood Reporter’s ‘Most Influential Women in International Film,’” she wrote. The recognition, she added, serves as a call to continue creating impactful stories and to support others in the creative community.

A proud moment for Akindele also came in the form of congratulating fellow Nigerian honouree, media mogul Mo Abudu, who was also recognized for her contributions to African storytelling. Akindele described Abudu as an inspiration and a powerful force in the creative industry.

This recognition marks another high point in Akindele’s already successful career, solidifying her as a global icon in the entertainment world.
