Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajuddeen, has announced that more prominent defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are expected in the coming months. Speaking at the North-West Zonal Stakeholders’ meeting in Kaduna on Saturday, he highlighted the growing confidence Nigerians have in the APC.

Since the 2023 general elections, the APC has secured governorship positions in 19 states and maintains a majority in both chambers of the National Assembly. Recent defections from federal lawmakers in Kano, Osun, Kebbi, Delta, and Edo states have increased the total number of defections in the House to 25.

Notably, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, have joined the APC, reflecting a shift in political allegiance at the gubernatorial level. The party also celebrated its victory in the 2024 Edo State gubernatorial election, where Senator Monday Okpebholo secured a decisive win.

Speaker Abbas highlighted the importance of the North-West geopolitical zone, noting it has over 22 million registered voters, making it a decisive force in shaping electoral outcomes. He called for unity and discipline within the party, urging members to maintain internal harmony and collaborate across all regions to ensure continued success.

The Speaker’s remarks underscore the APC’s strategic efforts to strengthen its position and expand its influence ahead of future elections.
