Veteran Nollywood actress, Patience Ozokwor, widely known as ‘Mama G,’ has denied claims that she illegally took over land belonging to a widow and her daughter. The claims, made in a viral video, accuse the actress of seizing a property allegedly left behind by the women’s late husband and father.
In a statement posted on her Instagram page, Ozokwor described the allegations as false and malicious. She said she lawfully bought the land in 2010, and the widow was fully aware of the transaction. In fact, she revealed, the widow had approached her agent to help find a buyer for the property.
Ozokwor explained that problems started in 2023 when the widow attempted to resell a portion of the same land without her consent. In response, she fenced off the land to protect her ownership rights, a move that was followed by the online accusations.
“This is blackmail and fraud,” Ozokwor wrote. “They are using my name and public image to gain sympathy and possibly financial donations. It’s hurtful and unfair.”
She also criticised bloggers and social media users who reposted the video without verifying the facts. “Social media is not a court,” she stated, adding that she has begun legal proceedings to clear her name.
The actress said the allegations were damaging to her reputation, which she has spent years building. “My name is my brand, and I will not allow it to be dragged through the mud without a fight,” she added.
Ozokwor thanked her fans and supporters who reached out to her during the controversy, promising to handle the matter legally and with dignity.
“I’m letting the law take its course,” she said, urging the public to await the facts rather than believe social media narratives.
The incident has stirred reactions online, with many Nigerians showing support for the actress and calling for a proper legal resolution to the dispute. As the case moves to the courts, attention is now focused on how it will play out, and whether the accusations will stand up to legal scrutiny.
