KKK Cult Issues Death Threats to Uyo Community Leaders

    Share

Panic has gripped residents of Ifa Ikot Akpan village in Etoi Clan, Uyo Local Government Area, following a direct threat from suspected cult members warning of an impending attack on the community.

According to the village head, Eteidung Aniedi Ebong, the threat came in the form of a handwritten letter reportedly signed by members of a notorious cult group known as the KKK Confraternity. The letter, which was found pasted on the doorpost of the village council hall, named specific community leaders as targets for allegedly reporting cult members to security agencies.

The letter, which was read aloud to villagers during an emergency meeting held at the village hall on Thursday, accused local leaders of collaborating with law enforcement to harass members of the cult. It issued a chilling warning: “We will not fold our hands and see the constant harassment of our members with the use of security agencies… A word is enough for the wise.”

Named in the letter were the Youth Chairman, Mr. Abasiama Etim Eyo; Council MembersMr. Itoro Offiong Essien and Mr. Itoro Etim Ben; Village Council Chairman, Mr. Edidiong Effiong Ubit; and Secretary, Mr. Victor Edet Asuquo.

“We consider this a serious threat,” said the village head. “We have already reached out to the Akwa Ibom State Government and the Commissioner of Police. We are calling for immediate intervention to avoid any loss of life or property.”

The monarch also disclosed that a formal Save Our Souls (SOS) appeal had been sent to both state authorities and security agencies, warning that inaction could result in chaos and violence.

An elder of the community, who spoke anonymously, confirmed the gravity of the situation. “This is no longer just street talk. They wrote it down, named people, and made their intentions clear. We cannot wait until it’s too late,” he said.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has acknowledged the incident. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John, assured that the command would take prompt action.

“We are aware of the threat, and I can confirm that measures will be put in place immediately to protect lives and maintain peace in the area,” DSP John stated. “We are treating the matter with all the seriousness it deserves.”

Sources say this is not the first time the Ifa Ikot Akpan community has experienced cult-related tension, but this latest incident is being seen as more dangerous because of the direct threats and the specific individuals named.

Cultism remains a persistent problem in many parts of Akwa Ibom and other southern states, often leading to violence, killings, and the destruction of property. Despite efforts by security agencies and community leaders, many of the groups continue to operate underground, posing a serious threat to peace and development.

As residents now live in fear of a possible attack, many are calling on the state government to deploy more security to the area and carry out a thorough investigation into the individuals behind the threats.

Meanwhile, community leaders are urging calm and advising residents to remain vigilant while awaiting action from law enforcement.
