Afrobeats superstar Davido has announced his withdrawal from an upcoming concert headlined by American rapper 50 Cent and R\&B legend Mary J. Blige. The event, part of the Legacy Tour, is scheduled to take place on July 3 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

Davido made the announcement on Saturday, June 14, via a statement shared on his Instagram Stories. He stated that his decision was based on “principle and respect” for his work, fans, and African culture.

“Despite strong fan support and impressive ticket sales, there have been major misalignments regarding the event’s execution, particularly concerning key elements required to uphold the integrity and quality of my performance,” the singer said.

He clarified that his withdrawal had nothing to do with low turnout. “This decision is not a reflection of turnout or support; it is a matter of principle and respect for my craft, my fans, and the culture I represent.”

Davido revealed that his team had worked closely with the event promoters — The Neto Future Group and Iconic Presents — but key concerns remained unresolved. These, he said, would have affected the quality of his performance.

“My team and I have worked tirelessly in preparation, and I am incredibly grateful to the thousands of fans who purchased tickets in anticipation,” he added.

While expressing regret over pulling out, Davido said he remains committed to his fans and promised to return to London soon. “London, I’ll see you guys soon, I promise!”

He also reassured fans that his other summer shows remain on schedule. “5ive is still alive! See you guys in Germany, Portugal, Belgium, Canada, and the US!” he said, signing off with a bold message: “Africa must be respected.”

Davido, known globally for his hit songs and energetic performances, is one of Africa’s biggest music exports. His decision has sparked conversations online about the treatment of African artists in global events.

The London show will still go ahead as planned, but without Davido on the lineup.
