Governor Alia Suspends Adviser After EFCC Arrest for Sextortion, Cyberbullying

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has indefinitely suspended his Special Adviser on Documentation, Research, and Planning, Mkor Aondona, following his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of sextortion, cyberbullying, and blackmail.

The governor’s spokesperson, Tersoo Kula, announced the suspension on Sunday, saying the move is to uphold integrity, discipline, and accountability in government service.

Governor Alia emphasized that anyone in his administration involved in criminal or unethical conduct would face the full force of the law without interference or bias. “His administration will not tolerate any act that damages public trust or brings the government into disrepute,” Kula stated.

The EFCC arrested Aondona on June 20, 2025, in Makurdi after multiple female students accused him of recruiting slim and attractive girls for ushering jobs, demanding sexual favours in exchange.

The adviser is also alleged to have blackmailed some victims by sharing explicit videos recorded without their consent on various messaging platforms. Some of these videos have reportedly circulated widely.
