    Kidnapped NDLEA Director Freed After 10 Days in Captivity

    The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the release of the State Director of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr. Daniel Onyishi, who was kidnapped in Awka on June 12, 2025.

    According to police reports, Mr. Onyishi was abducted in the early hours of that day along Oby Okoli Road, close to the Winners Chapel headquarters and UNIZIK student hostels. He was reportedly double-crossed by his abductors and taken to an unknown location.

    A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Sunday, June 22, said the NDLEA boss was rescued through a joint operation involving the police and operatives of the NDLEA, led by the Zone 12 Commander, Mrs. Florence Ezeonye.

    “The victim is now in safe custody and receiving medical attention,” the statement read.

    The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has briefed the Police High Command and assured that efforts are ongoing to arrest those responsible for the kidnapping.
