Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has confirmed that 22 suspects have been arrested over the brutal killing of 12 wedding guests from Kaduna in Plateau State.
The victims were travelling from Zaria to attend a wedding in Quan Pan Local Government Area of Plateau on Saturday when they were ambushed and killed by a mob in Mangun District, Mangu LGA.
Governor Sani described the attack as barbaric during a visit to the survivors at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna on Monday. Several of the survivors are currently receiving treatment for serious injuries.
He said he had spoken with Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang and President Bola Tinubu to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice swiftly.
The governor praised Kaduna residents for remaining calm despite the painful incident, and urged leaders in Plateau to caution their communities to avoid further violence.
Security agencies have been directed to fully investigate the attack and prosecute all those responsible.
The killings have sparked outrage, especially as the victims were innocent travelers on their way to celebrate a joyous occasion.
