Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that the 2027 general elections will mark a major shift in Nigeria’s political landscape, saying it will not be “business as usual.”
Atiku made the statement on Tuesday in Abuja while receiving a delegation of North West opinion leaders, digital media influencers, and Kannywood stakeholders. The group, led by Dr. Aslam Aliyu, also included members of the PAA 2027 New Media and Digital Communications Forum.
During the meeting, Atiku emphasized the importance of forming a united opposition front ahead of the next general election, aimed at addressing the country’s rising insecurity, economic hardship, and governance issues.
“The coalition we are working on is a deliberate effort to recover and rebuild Nigeria, based on the demands of Nigerians,” he said.
The visit comes amid growing public dissatisfaction with the current APC-led government, with some forum members openly admitting regret for supporting President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 elections.
The stakeholders pledged support for Atiku’s planned coalition, highlighting lessons learned from the last election and stressing the need for better voter education and access to truthful information.
Atiku encouraged the delegation to continue mobilising support and enlightening Nigerians, saying the success of the coalition will depend on unity and shared commitment to national progress.
He also reassured Nigerians that the opposition coalition has the capacity to tackle the country’s major challenges, particularly insecurity and economic instability.
“The hardship Nigerians are facing today is real, but we are ready and capable of turning things around,” he said.
The development signals early political moves ahead of 2027 and a possible alliance of major opposition forces determined to challenge the ruling APC.
