Rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has cast doubt on the recent peace agreement brokered by President Bola Tinubu between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
President Tinubu had hosted the two politicians alongside members of the Rivers State House of Assembly at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday night in an effort to resolve the months-long political crisis in the state. Reports say the meeting led to a truce among the warring factions.
However, Deji Adeyanju, in a post on his official Facebook page, expressed strong skepticism about the outcome of the reconciliation. He warned Governor Fubara not to fully trust Wike, describing the former governor as “unreasonable” and likely to betray any agreement reached.
“No matter the agreement you have with Wike, he will make your life miserable,” Adeyanju wrote. “Fubara will not be able to sleep with two eyes closed, and 2027 will be worse.”
The activist also added, “Even when Wike makes a vow, his vow is as useless as the T in buffet.”
Deji’s warning comes amid mixed public reactions to the peace deal, with some expressing hope for stability in Rivers State while others, like Adeyanju, remain doubtful.
The Rivers crisis, which began shortly after Fubara took office, has been marked by tensions between the governor and Wike, his political godfather, along with lawmakers aligned with the former governor. The latest reconciliation move by the presidency aims to calm the political atmosphere in the oil-rich state.
