The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has warned of a sharp rise in drug abuse in Calabar and other major towns in Cross River State.
Victor Bradford, Deputy Commander of Operations at the NDLEA Cross River Command, disclosed in an interview that drug users make up the highest number of detainees in their Calabar detention facilities, more than anywhere else in the state.
He expressed deep concern over the widespread drug abuse, calling it “very disturbing” and highlighting the urgent need for collective action against the growing menace.
Bradford explained that the fight against drug abuse, illegal drug trade, and organized crime requires a united front from all stakeholders. To address the problem, the agency has activated ongoing operations aimed at arresting drug barons and stopping the distribution of illegal substances across the state.
“We will not spare anyone involved in the illegal drug trade,” Bradford assured.
Other community leaders and stakeholders have also called for stronger efforts to create a drug-free society in Cross River, emphasizing the importance of public awareness and cooperation in tackling the issue.
