Troops from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have killed a suspected bandit and recovered weapons during a military operation in Taraba State.
The operation took place on Friday in Ussa Local Government Area, following credible intelligence about bandit movements in the area. Soldiers deployed from Kwesati established a tactical position along a suspected bandit crossing route.
According to Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Spokesman of the 6 Brigade, the troops engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to flee into the surrounding forest. One bandit was confirmed dead during the clash.
The military also recovered an AK-47 rifle and other items from the encounter, marking a significant success in the ongoing fight against banditry in the region.
Efforts to secure Taraba and other parts of Nigeria from criminal gangs have been intensified in recent years, as bandit attacks continue to threaten peace and security in the country.
