Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has called on Nigerians to visit him at the Department of State Services (DSS) detention facility in Abuja if they have any doubts about messages passed through his lawyers.
This open invitation follows a recent ruling by a Kenyan High Court which declared Kanu’s extradition to Nigeria in 2021 as illegal and unlawful.
Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, revealed the development on Friday after a routine meeting with his client.
“Rising from today’s visitation, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu took the opportunity to hail his lawyers and siblings for the stunning victory from Kenya,” Ejimakor posted on X (formerly Twitter). “He also extended an open invitation to anybody who is in doubt about his messages through his lawyers to personally pay him a visit at the DSS.”
Kanu was arrested in June 2021 and brought back to Nigeria under controversial circumstances described as an extraordinary rendition, which violated international legal standards. His detention has sparked local and international criticism, especially among human rights groups.
The IPOB leader continues to face charges related to his secessionist campaign, while calls for his release have intensified following the Kenyan court’s verdict.
Ejimakor said the invitation is part of Kanu’s effort to clear misinformation and show he remains in good spirits despite the long detention.
