Fubara Disowns 2027 Campaign Materials, Calls for Peace in Rivers

Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has denied having any connection to campaign materials bearing his name and image for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking to his supporters in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Fubara said he was shocked to see videos showing caps and shirts being produced in his name for a future political campaign. He firmly stated that he neither authorised nor endorsed such materials.

“I was pissed off. Someone forwarded to me a video showing where they were producing campaign materials—caps and shirts—for the 2027 general elections. I am not aware of it, and I did not authorise or send anyone,” Fubara said.

He emphasized that his main focus now is peace and development in Rivers State, not premature political campaigns. “Every one of us should understand that we have done our best, and what we need now is this peace for us to grow,” he added.

Fubara’s remarks come shortly after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu intervened in the prolonged political crisis in the state. The dispute, largely between Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, had led to Fubara’s suspension from office for six months. The crisis also prompted the president to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State.
