NJC Clears Kano Judges of Allegations

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has dismissed petitions filed against two Federal High Court judges sitting in Kano, citing lack of merit in the allegations.

In a statement released after its 109th meeting held on June 25, 2025, and presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat M. O. Kekere-Ekun, the NJC said it found no grounds to proceed with the case.

The petitions were filed by Abdullahi Baffa Bichi against Justices A. M. Liman and S. A. Amobeda. A separate petition against Justice Muhammad Auwal Haruna was also withdrawn and dismissed.

While the NJC did not disclose the details of the allegations, it noted that five complaints were reviewed during the meeting, including matters related to judicial appointments in the High Courts of Plateau and Kano States, and the Sharia Courts of Appeal in Zamfara and Katsina States.

The Council reaffirmed its commitment to upholding accountability in the judiciary but also cautioned against baseless or malicious petitions aimed at tarnishing the image of judges.
