There was confusion in Abuja on Saturday after a 73-year-old Israeli national, Avi Warshaviak, died suddenly at a hotel in the Garki area of the city.
Warshaviak was staying at Corinthia Villa Hotel with his wife when he reportedly fell ill around 9:51 a.m. He was quickly rushed to Asokoro General Hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead shortly after arrival.
According to police sources, the hotel’s Chief Security Officer, Okorie Emmanuel, reported the incident to the Garki Divisional Police Headquarters at about 11:23 a.m.
In response, officers visited both the hotel and the hospital to gather information. The man’s body was later deposited at the hospital mortuary for an autopsy.
Authorities say efforts are currently ongoing to contact the Israeli Embassy in Nigeria for consular arrangements and further investigation.
The exact cause of death is yet to be determined. Police say they are awaiting results from the autopsy and will continue to monitor the situation.
