Tragedy struck in Gora Village, Madobi Local Government Area of Kano State, as a 50-year-old man, Salisu Musa, lost his life after falling into a well during what was described as a spiritual attack.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the victim was said to have been battling with a condition linked to demonic possession, locally known as Aljannu.
The Service was alerted to the incident by a fire officer, SFS Sadi Gora, and rescue personnel were quickly dispatched to the scene.
“Upon arrival, they found the man unconscious in the well. Witnesses said he had experienced a spiritual episode, ran off, and accidentally fell into the well. He reportedly cried for help, but assistance did not come in time,” the statement said.
Musa was later pulled out of the well and confirmed dead. His body was handed over to Inspector Nuhu Danial of the Madobi Police Division.
In a related incident, the Fire Service also rescued a 37-year-old woman, Maryam Bita, who accidentally fell into a well in the France Road area of Fagge LGA.
The rescue was carried out following a distress call made at about 4:50 am by a resident, Joseph Pitter. The woman was brought out alive and taken to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital for treatment.
She was later handed over to Police Constable Mu’azu Abdullahi of the Sabon Gari Division for further care.
