Police Take Over PDP Secretariat Ahead of NEC Meeting

    Share

There was tension in Abuja on Monday morning as armed police officers took control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, ahead of a crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

Reports from party officials suggest the police were deployed to prevent a planned Expanded Caucus Meeting, which was expected to take place within the premises.

Initially, some party staff were allowed into the building without issues. However, they were later asked to vacate the premises, along with journalists who had gathered to cover the event.

Security presence was also extended to Dalaba Street, which leads to the PDP secretariat, as officers cordoned off the road, preventing access to both vehicles and pedestrians.

The party has yet to issue an official statement regarding the reason behind the heavy security presence or whether the NEC meeting will still hold as scheduled.

Political observers believe the development may be linked to internal disagreements within the party’s leadership ranks, as talks of factional clashes and leadership struggles have continued to dominate recent discussions around the PDP.
