The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has dismissed rumours that Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso is planning to leave the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Alhaji Hashim Sulaiman Dugunrawa, Chairman of NNPP in Kano State, said on Tuesday that the speculations are baseless and actually show how influential Kwankwaso remains in Nigerian politics.
“We are happy that people are spreading it. It shows how politically relevant Senator Kwankwaso remains,” he said.
Dugunrawa described Kwankwaso as a man of integrity, honour, and focus, denying any claims that he is involved in corruption or politically irrelevant.
He acknowledged the long political history between Kwankwaso and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the two have worked alongside each other as governors and senators.
“The plan for Kwankwaso to defect to APC is just a rumour. We cannot base anything on mere speculation,” Dugunrawa added.
He reminded the public that Kwankwaso and Tinubu have a shared political past, having served as governors of Kano and Lagos States respectively, and as senators representing their states.
For now, the NNPP insists that Kwankwaso remains loyal to the party, and the defection rumours should be disregarded.
