A prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Chief Bode George, has described the party as “an Iroko tree” with deep roots, saying the PDP remains strong and far from dead despite recent challenges.
George made the remark following the disruption of a PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting, which was scheduled to hold at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja** but was halted after **police officers reportedly blocked access to the venue.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, George expressed shock at the presence of security operatives at the Secretariat, saying the officers told him they were acting on orders from above.
“It was disgraceful. It’s like going back to your house and seeing it surrounded by police,” he said. “They were civil, not rough, but when I asked if they had a court order, they simply said, ‘We are on orders.’ I had to leave for a rescheduled meeting at the Yar’Adua Centre.”
Although the FCT Police Command denied sealing the Secretariat, George insisted the action was part of the broader crisis within the party.
He dismissed claims that the PDP is finished, calling those who believe so “first-class dreamers.”
“What we have in the PDP in terms of structure, unity, and political management, others don’t have. The PDP is still the Iroko political party of Nigeria,” he said.
George urged party members to remain united, adding that the recent events are valuable lessons as the party works to rebuild and prepare for the future.
