EFCC Charges Man Over Alleged N1 Million Fraud in Maiduguri

    Share

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Mustapha Idris before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court in Maiduguri for an alleged fraud involving N1 million.

The Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the EFCC brought Idris before the court on Tuesday, July 1, on a one-count amended charge of criminal misappropriation.

According to the charge, Idris allegedly took N1 million from one Salisu Waziri in 2023 under the false claim that the money was for grain trading investment.

The court charge states that Idris “dishonestly misappropriated the sum of N1,000,000.00 belonging to Salisu Waziri purportedly as money for grain investment, a claim which you knew to be false,” violating the Borno State Penal Code.

    Idris pleaded not guilty.

Following the plea, the prosecution requested that the trial begin and that Idris be held in custody. Justice Kumaliya agreed, remanding Idris at the Maiduguri Correctional Centre and setting the trial to commence on July 10.
