A Plateau State High Court has sentenced Emmanuel Ude, a former student of Government Technical College, Bukuru, to death by hanging for murdering his teacher, Mr. Job Dashe, in 2021.
The judgment was delivered by Justice Silas Bakfur on Monday after a lengthy trial. Ude was found guilty of culpable homicide under Sections 221 and 222 of the Plateau State Penal Code, which carries the death penalty.
The incident happened in July 2021 when Mr. Dashe, acting as Duty Master, asked Ude to open his food flask during a routine inspection. Ude refused and left the dining hall. He later returned with a knife and stabbed the teacher in the chest before fleeing. Mr. Dashe was rushed to a hospital on Vom Road but was pronounced dead.
Ude was arrested days later and confessed to the crime, according to investigators. Prosecutors argued the attack was planned and deliberate, presenting evidence over nearly four years.
Despite Ude’s lawyer pleading for mercy, Justice Bakfur said the law must take its course and sentenced Ude to death by hanging.
