The Ondo State Police Command has warned against any plans to mark the annual July 7 cultism celebration, declaring such activities illegal and a threat to public safety.
Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Williams Lawal, made this known during a press briefing at the State Police Headquarters. He stated that the Command would not tolerate any form of cult-related gathering on or around the 7/7 date, which some cult groups have used in the past to recruit new members and unleash violence.
“This Command will not condone any cult-related event or gathering under any guise. Residents are hereby warned to steer clear of any activity that threatens public safety or disrupts the peace,” Lawal warned.
The Commissioner urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to keep a close watch on their children and wards and discourage involvement in cultism or any group that may disturb public order.
Lawal also highlighted the Command’s recent progress in fighting crime, including the dismantling of armed robbery gangs and cult networks. He credited the achievements to the use of modern surveillance systems, digital tracking, and forensic tools.
“The deployment of intelligent surveillance systems and forensic capabilities has enhanced our operations, enabling quicker detection and disruption of criminal networks,” he said.
The Police Commissioner called for continued cooperation from the public and assured residents of the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order across Ondo State.
He urged the public to stay vigilant, report suspicious movements, and support law enforcement efforts to keep the state safe, especially during this sensitive period.
