Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi has officially joined Arsenal and will wear the No. 36 shirt at the Emirates Stadium. The club confirmed his squad number on Sunday following his unveiling as the Gunners’ second summer signing.
Zubimendi joins from Spanish side Real Sociedad in a deal worth €65 million. He follows goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who signed earlier in the window from Chelsea.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed his excitement about the arrival of the 25-year-old, describing him as a smart and consistent player who fits perfectly into the team’s style.
“Martin Zubimendi is a player who will bring a huge amount of quality and football intelligence to our team. He has all the attributes to be a key player for us,” Arteta said.
Zubimendi is expected to fill the gap left by veteran midfielder Jorginho, who moved to Brazilian club Flamengo on a free transfer earlier this summer.
Arsenal fans will be hoping Zubimendi’s arrival strengthens the squad as the team prepares for another Premier League title push in the 2025/2026 season.
