Popular Nigerian singer Michael Adebayo Olayinka, known as Ruger, has shared how his passion for music began when he was just a child.
In a recent interview on the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast hosted by Joey Akan, Ruger revealed that at the age of nine, he used to sneak out to parties to listen and dance to Afrobeats and Dancehall music.
“I was sneaking out to go to parties to listen to Afrobeats and Dancehall. I was not even 10 years old then but already knew how to dance. So I would just go to parties and shake my body,” Ruger said.
Ruger became famous in 2021 after releasing the hit song ‘Bounce,’ which helped him secure a recording deal with Jonzing World. That same year, he dropped his debut EP ‘Pandemic,’ which further boosted his career.
In 2024, Ruger left Jonzing World after a disagreement with the label boss, D’Prince. He has since started his own record label, Blown Boy Entertainment, marking a new chapter in his music journey.
Ruger’s story shows how early love and dedication to music helped shape one of Nigeria’s fast-rising stars.
