The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has passed away at the age of 90. He died in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, exactly one year after ascending the throne.
Oba Olakulehin was born on July 5, 1935, and had just celebrated his 90th birthday two days before his death. He became the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland on July 12, 2024, when he was officially presented with the staff of office by Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde.
His reign, though brief, was marked by respect and reverence from his subjects and the entire state.
The Olubadan is a highly respected traditional ruler in Oyo State and one of the most influential monarchs in southwestern Nigeria.
His death brings an end to a significant chapter in Ibadan’s long history, as the community now prepares to mourn and select a new Olubadan.
