Nollywood actor and former governorship candidate, Yul Edochie, has shared his personal experience from the 2017 Anambra State governorship election, highlighting what he described as unexpected friendliness among candidates.

Posting on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Yul revealed that during the election period, there was mutual respect and no hostility among the contestants, including the then-sitting governor.

“When I ran for Governor of Anambra in 2017, I noticed something,” he wrote. “All the governorship candidates were all friendly, including the sitting Governor. The few times we all met, there was always mutual respect in the air amidst jokes.”

Yul Edochie, who contested under the Democratic Peoples Congress (DPC) at the time, said he observed that the real hostility and heated arguments were mostly among supporters, not the candidates themselves.

His comments come as Nigeria continues to grapple with rising political tensions and violent rhetoric, especially on social media. Yul’s reflection adds a new perspective to the conversation, suggesting that the real political climate among candidates can be more civil than it appears in public discourse.
