Fear and anger have gripped Gombe metropolis following the brutal killing of a 45-year-old businessman, Amadi Kasiran, by suspected ‘Yan Kalare’ thugs on Sunday night in Hammadu Kafi community.
Amadi, a well-known entrepreneur and owner of Amadi Kasiran Fabrications, was stabbed to death during a violent attack that left several other residents injured. His welding business, which provided jobs to many youths in the area, has been described by locals as a beacon of hard work and community empowerment.
The attackers, believed to be members of the notorious ‘Yan Kalare’ gang, stormed the community late at night, unleashing terror on innocent residents. According to eyewitnesses, the thugs moved from house to house, stabbing and attacking people at random.
Mukhtar Muhammad Rabiu, a local resident, shared the horror on social media. He revealed that one of the victims was a patient who had recently undergone skull surgery. The victim had to be rushed back to the hospital for emergency treatment after being stabbed.
The killing of Amadi has sparked widespread outrage, with many calling on the government and security agencies to take immediate action to curb the growing menace of street gangs and political thugs in the state.
Reacting to the tragic development, Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo, former governor of Gombe State and the current senator representing Gombe North, expressed deep sorrow over the murder. He described Amadi as an “industrious citizen” whose death was a huge loss to the community.
“It is imperative for the state government and security agencies to end these heinous acts that cause injury and death, bringing unforgettable pain to families and leaving children orphaned,” Dankwambo said in a statement.
He called for a renewed effort to dismantle the networks of political thuggery that have plagued the state for years, especially during and after election seasons.
The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the incident. In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, the command assured the public that an intelligence-based investigation has begun.
“All efforts are being intensified to identify, trace, and apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime so they can be brought to justice,” the police said.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya also condemned the attack in strong terms. Speaking through his media aide, Isma’ila Uba Misilli, the governor described the killing as “senseless and completely unacceptable.”
“The state government will not allow a return of violence and thuggery in Gombe. We will ensure that those responsible for this evil act are tracked and punished according to the law,” the governor stated.
The governor further reassured residents of his administration’s commitment to making the state safe for everyone and promised stronger support for law enforcement agencies.
Gombe State has long struggled with the problem of political thuggery, especially involving the ‘Yan Kalare’ gang. The group, known for violent attacks, has been linked to multiple cases of assault, robbery, and even murder in the past. Despite efforts by previous administrations to disband the group, recent reports suggest the gang is regrouping and becoming active again.
Community members are now calling on both the federal and state governments to take stronger action and adopt long-term strategies to rehabilitate youth and stop the cycle of gang violence.
As residents mourn the loss of a man many described as kind, hardworking, and community-oriented, the call for justice grows louder.
“We have lost someone who truly cared about our future,” said a youth who worked at Amadi’s welding shop. “All we want now is justice.”
