The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has pledged to model its party structure and ethics on international best practices from countries like South Africa, Sweden, Chile, and Kenya.
Rauf Aregbesola, the party’s newly appointed Interim National Secretary, made the declaration during a meeting of the National Opposition Coalition Group held at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. The coalition officially adopted the ADC as its political party.
In his acceptance speech, Aregbesola promised to build a party grounded in true internal democracy, transparency, and fairness. He stressed that intra-party competition would be open and just, and all levels of the party from wards to national would work effectively.
He also emphasized the need for real inclusion of young people, women, and marginalized groups, not just symbolic representation. According to him, special interests like security personnel, educators, farmers, workers, and people with disabilities would have autonomous structures within the party.
“We will model international best practices in party organization, administration, and ethics,” Aregbesola said. “We will study what works in other countries and adapt it to our local reality. Discipline, order, clarity of purpose, and service to the people must define us.”
The meeting marked a significant step for the opposition coalition, signaling renewed focus on unity and good governance ahead of future elections.
