The opposition coalition has officially adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform for the 2027 general elections. This move aims to challenge and unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement on Tuesday, the coalition announced key interim leaders for the party. Former Senate President, David Mark, was named the national chairman. Rauf Aregbesola, immediate past Minister of Interior, was appointed national secretary, while former Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi, will serve as the party’s spokesperson.
The coalition had earlier planned to register a new party called the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) after talks with ADC and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) failed. However, concerns that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) might block the registration of ADA forced the coalition to return to negotiations with ADC.
The official unveiling of the new arrangement is scheduled for Wednesday at 2 p.m.
This development marks a significant step as the opposition unites under a single party to increase their chances in the upcoming elections, signaling a serious challenge to the APC’s dominance.
