The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Hussaini Abubakar, for allegedly killing his 75-year-old mother, Dahara Mu’azu, during a domestic dispute in Dantanoma, Gumel Local Government Area.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at about 8:00 p.m., according to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Lawan Adam.
Police officers from the Gumel Divisional Headquarters responded to a distress call about a violent altercation between a mother and her son. On arrival, they reportedly found that Hussaini had struck his mother with mud blocks until she lost consciousness.
She was immediately rushed to Gumel General Hospital, where she was confirmed dead the following day, Monday, June 30, by medical personnel.
The suspect is currently in police custody and, according to authorities, is cooperating with investigators. He will be charged to court after investigations are completed.
The Commissioner of Police, CP AT Abdullahi, condemned the incident, calling it inhuman, barbaric, and utterly reprehensible. He has directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to take over the case and ensure justice is served.
The police have also urged members of the public to take mental health and domestic violence issues seriously, warning that early intervention can prevent similar tragedies.
