Former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has been buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, with full national and military honours. The solemn event took place shortly after funeral prayers (Janazah) were held at a nearby prayer ground, in line with Islamic rites.

The burial drew dignitaries from across the country, including family members, political leaders, traditional rulers, and mourners who gathered to pay their final respects. The body of the late president, draped in Nigeria’s green-white-green flag, was carried by military pallbearers to the graveside within his private residence.

A military band played soft tunes as soldiers stood in salute. A final gun salute was fired in his honour, marking the end of an era for a man who served Nigeria both as a military leader (1983–1985) and as a civilian president (2015–2023).

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and Governor Dikko Umar Radda were among top officials who received Buhari’s remains at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina. His body was flown in from London and transported to Daura under heavy security.
