The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has dismissed rumours of an impending strike by police personnel, calling it fake and mischievous.
Speaking during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Thursday, PCRC National Chairman, Mogaji Olaniyan, said the false news was being spread by “disgruntled elements” trying to create division within the Nigeria Police Force.
“There is no strike, and there won’t be any,” Olaniyan stated firmly. “This is a failed attempt by those who earlier tried to turn the public against the police, and now want to cause confusion within the force.”
He urged Nigerians to ignore the rumour, stating that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has shown strong commitment to improving the welfare of both serving and retired officers.
“All what Egbetokun is doing is to give the Nigeria Police a facelift, and we’re getting positive feedback from all 36 states and the FCT,” he added.
Olaniyan also revealed that the entire leadership of the PCRC across the country and in the Diaspora has passed a vote of confidence on the IGP and his management team for their efforts in crime-fighting and personnel deployment.
“If any state needs help to tackle criminals, the IGP responds swiftly by sending reinforcement teams from Abuja. That shows strong leadership,” he said.
He also called on the Federal Government to increase support for the police, particularly in terms of welfare and logistics.
To strengthen community policing, Olaniyan announced that the PCRC has directed its members to return to their communities and work with youths, market women, and village leaders by forming new youth and women committees.
“These groups are vital to community policing, and involving them will help make Nigeria safer,” he said.
