The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has confirmed that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, is not a card-carrying member of their party.

Speaking on Channels Television on Wednesday night, ADC’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, explained that although Obi is not officially registered with the ADC, he has been actively involved in their political coalition.

“Peter Obi has been part of the coalition from day one,” Abdullahi said. “He has attended almost every meeting of the coalition. However, he asked for permission to remain in the Labour Party to complete the 2023 election process.”

Abdullahi added that the same arrangement was made for former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, who was also involved in the coalition but remained with his party during the election period.

“Peter Obi is a member of the coalition, but not a card-carrying member of the ADC,” he stated.
