The Deputy Governor of Adamawa State, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, has confirmed that 29 people have died following the devastating flood that swept through parts of the state capital about 10 days ago.

Farauta gave the update on Tuesday in Yola during the visit of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who came to offer support to victims affected by the July 27, 2025 disaster.

Representing Governor Ahmadu Fintiri at the event, Farauta said the most recent assessment as of August 4 revealed that the flood, which severely affected Yola South Local Government Area, claimed 29 lives and displaced many others.

“This is one of the worst floods we’ve seen in Yola in recent times,” she said. “The government has done a lot to assist the victims, and we sincerely thank the First Lady for her timely intervention.”

The First Lady provided cash and relief materials to the affected families during a symbolic distribution ceremony, offering some relief to residents still counting their losses.
