Officials from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) have carried out a major raid in Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, clearing illegal makeshift structures and recovering dangerous weapons from suspected criminals. The operation also saw the seizure of about 20 vehicles believed to be linked to criminal activities.

Led by the Director of the Department of Development Control, Tpl. Muktar Galadima, the raid took place in the early hours of Wednesday, August 6, 2025, despite heavy rain. The area was identified as a major security threat to residents and motorists in the city.

“The location had become a hub for illegal activities and was posing serious dangers to Abuja’s security and aesthetic quality,” Galadima said. He explained that the cleared area was meant to be part of the Inner Northern Expressway, according to Abuja’s master plan, but was being occupied illegally.

Galadima added that a follow-up operation is scheduled for Thursday. He also warned property owners in the area to develop their lands properly or risk revocation of their plots, following the FCT Minister’s directive.

The Director of the Department of Security Services, Adamu Gwary, represented by Dr. Peter Olumuji, displayed some of the machetes and other weapons recovered during the raid. “These weapons are used by criminals in this area to attack passers-by and motorists. Many victims suffer injuries and lose valuables during such attacks,” he said.

The taskforce also impounded about 20 vehicles during the raid. Head of Operations at the Directorate of Road Traffic Service (DRTS), Deborah Osho, confirmed that some of the vehicles were used in “one-chance” robberies. These vehicles will not be released until owners provide proper documents and pay heavy fines.

The FCTA has assured residents that the operation is part of an ongoing effort to rid Abuja of criminal hideouts and illegal structures, making the city safer for all.
