Tension has gripped Ipelle village in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State after a deadly attack by suspected herders left a police inspector and a civilian dead.
The police officer, identified as Inspector Daniel Omanyebu, was attached to the Ipelle Police Outpost under the Agatu Division. He lost his life while responding to the attack on the community.
The incident, which occurred earlier this week, has led to the deployment of several police tactical teams to the area, including Operation Zenda, the Police Mobile Force (PMF), the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), and other patrol units.
The Area Commander of Otukpo has reportedly moved to Agatu to take charge of the situation and coordinate ongoing security efforts in the area.
The body of Inspector Omanyebu has been recovered and taken to the mortuary. Meanwhile, the Benue State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has taken over the case and is currently working to identify and arrest the attackers.
This latest incident adds to the growing list of violent clashes in Benue State, which has faced years of conflict between farmers and suspected armed herders, leading to loss of lives and property.
